Deck of the Month: December 2020

Winner for December 2020!

We're closing out the year with a beautiful backyard project that we got to watch be built from the ground up! Our Deck of the Month winner for the last month of 2020 is Joseph L. from the lovely state of North Carolina!

Joseph created a wonderful outdoor deck space that is as multi-functional as it is eye-catching! Offering an upper-level deck space complete with an overhead pergola for enteraining, our Deck of the Month presents a stunning and safe outdoor staircase, as well as a dry, lower-level patio space below.

Deck of the Month: December 2020

Boasting the attractive look of Trex Transcend Fascia Boards in Island Mist for a polishing, finished look, Joseph's DIY deck build blends timeless looks with openness and accessiblity.

December 2020 Winning Deck!

Creating deck post footings deep enough in the ground create a safe DIY deck build for upper-level spaces Cover and protect deck joists and beams with flashing tape or deck joist protection tape Prevent moisture and water-damage from destroying wood deck frame and posts with flashing tape With a gorgeous DIY pergola built on top, this deck features a beautiful spot for outdoor dinners and drinks

Deck Joist Tape

Starting off this deck project by planning and digging proper deck post footings deep enough into the ground, Joseph's deck and staircase project shows the preparation that goes into any backyard construction.

Next, our Deck of the Month winner protected the future and longevity of their wood deck frame by applying deck joist tape. Flashing tape, also known as deck joist tape or acrylic flashing tape, is attached to joists and beams over the top face of the boards. This shielding deck tape prevents mositure from entering the wood frame and damaging the structural integrity of the lumber.

Trex Fascia Boards

After the deck stairs have been built and the deck railing has been mounted, Joseph added the ideal finishing touch to the outdoor living space, beautiful color-coordinating fascia boards.

Fascia boards are installed along the outside edge of decks and staircases to essentially cover the deck frame and substrate below. Our Deck of the Month winner has chosen the beautiful Island Mist shade from the Trex Transcend line to perfect the look of his exterior space.

Using the Starborn Pro Plug system to attach the fascia boards, Joseph chose durable epoxy-coated steel screws and color-coordinating plugs for a secure, fastener-free fascia attachment.

Congratulations, Joseph!

Everyone here at DecksDirect would love to say a huge Congratulations to the winning crew in North Carolina for their beautiful job well done! For your hard work and keen eye for deck and pergola design, we'll be sending some awesome DecksDirect swag your way!
