Deck of the Month - September 2020
The air grows crisper each day, the leaves are beginning to transform into beautiful bouquets of color, and we cherish our time outside on the deck a little bit more every time. With these warm thoughts in mind, we are very happy to say a big Congratulations to Janice and Brad from Iowa for winning our Deck of the Month contest for September 2020!
Their beautiful backyard build showcases the impressive look of blending an exotic hardwood decking like Ipe with a sleek, metal cable railing system such as the Skyline Cable railing line. The warm bronze fine textured powder-coat finish of the Skyline Cable rail combines with the rich, deep colors of the natural Ipe deck boards and add a stunning outdoor accent to the friendly cream color of the house.
Ipe Decking Renovation
By choosing gorgeous Ipe decking to create the flooring for their outdoor space, our Deck of the Month winners Brad and Janice, also selected a rugged, strong deck material that is naturally resistant to rot, abrasion, weather, and insects.
To keep the finished appearance looking as clean and blemish-free as possible, our contest winners wisely chose to use the Ipe Clip Extreme Hidden Fastener system. The Ipe Clip Hidden Fastener line attaches the deck boards to the joist below via the side-groove, this clip allows for each board to expand and contract through the seasons while still securely remaining in place.
Color-matching composite deck screws were installed along the first, last, and staircase deck boards to keep the deck fasteners concealed throughout.
Skyline Cable Railing Installation
When selecting the Skyline Cable system for their backyard deck railing, our Deck of the Month winners, chose a strong metal railing supporting sleek, near-invisible stainless steel cable runs. Rich, bronze aluminum deck posts and rails deliver an immovable railing foundation while the thin 1/8th inch thick cable allows guests' eyes to look beyond the railing in front of them.
A coordinating Ipe board is attached along the top rail of the Skyline Cable system to create a decorative and functional flat drink rail. Perfect for family, friends, and guests to lean, relax, and set down beverages or meals; creating a level drink rail also boasts a unique architectural detail that draws the eye across the space.
Deck Lighting Design
Janice and Brad also decided to enhance the nighttime appeal of their outdoor living area and increase the safety of the space by installing deck lighting and stair lighting to the deck railing design! Installing LMT Mercer Under Rail Strip Lights and a low-voltage deck lighting transformer, evening get-togethers just got more fun for everyone!
Upon hearing of their recent win, Janice reached out to let us know more about their deck project! She said, "We hired a crew to install the deck and our main goal was to get rid of spindles obstructing our view of the nature behind us, to expand our deck footprint for more seating and a cozier space and to have a low maintenance deck."
