Deck of the Month: April 2023

Deck of the Month Winner for April 2023

Congratulations to Charlie F., who wins our Deck of the Month award for April 2023!

Charlie's deck wraps classic style in modern, low-maintenance materials for a deck that will look great for years to come. DecksDirect project planner Greg helped Charlie get all the parts and pieces he needed for a complete AFCO Pro aluminum deck railing, plust beautiful Trex Transcend composite deck boards and hidden fasteners to install them.

"DecksDirect is a great company!" said Charlie on Instagram. "Call and ask for Greg. He will know what you need."

Learn More About This Classic Look

What's great about Charlie's deck is that it glows with that "new-deck" feeling without giving up its more traditional styling. That's the result of some smart design choices. Let's explore a few of them below:

Featured Product: AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing

The contents of an AFCO Pro Level Rail Kit for metal deck railing

AFCO Pro Aluminum Deck Railing is really one-of-a-kind in its ability to blend the modern and the classic. The system is made from modern powder-coated aluminum with a sleek, textured look, but the top rail is distinctly classic with a rounded-off T-shape sometimes called a "breadloaf" look.

When you blend the modern and the traditional, you get a timeless look. It always has character and it never goes out of style. This deck is a great example of how the right railing can spruce up a deck without clashing with the home's existing architecture.

Featured Product: Trex Transcend Composite Decking in Island Mist Color

The multi-shaded gray finish of Trex Transcend Composite Deck Boards in Island Mist

The deck surface uses Trex Transcend composite deck boards in the popular Island Mist color.

Like the railing, this plays into the classic look. It mimics the look of a traditional gray wood deck, a timeless look that's popular across the country. But by using Trex composite boards instead of wood, this deck cuts regular maintenance hours down dramatically.

While the look leans heavily toward classic, character-rich styles, this deck makes sure to get that "new deck" flash by adding some bright white trim. Check out some Trex Woodgrain White trim boards below to get the look for yourself:

To help your deck submission stand out, here are a couple of our favorite photo-taking tips:

  • Try several different angles: a high shot can show off more of your deck surface. A low shot lets everyone experience your deck the way you do when walking up to it. Try a couple different angles to really show off all aspects of your deck.
  • Include your decor and furniture: once you've completed your deck upgrade, don't take your photos until you've moved your furniture, grill, outdoor decorations and personal touches back into your space. We love seeing lived-in spaces that homeowners are already enjoying!
  • Wait for good weather: it's tempting to snap photos the moment you finish a project. But if it's raining or the sky is covered in dark and gloomy clouds, wait for a dry deck and brighter lighting to really show off the best side of your space.
