General AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing FAQs

Why Should I Choose AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing For My Deck Project?

AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing is a versatile, high-quality metal railing that doesn’t limit your design options. AFCO Pro’s traditional look fits well in a number of architectural styles, and its smart design makes it easy to accommodate odd angles for stairs or irregular corners on your deck.

AFCO Pro comes in full panel kits, which make it easy to plan and install your deck railing. With rail panels in 4-foot, 6-foot, 8-foot, and 10-foot lengths, AFCO kits easily conform to your deck’s specific dimensions.. If you want a strong, durable railing, a classic, traditional look, or a railing with a drink rail, AFCO Pro is an excellent choice.

What Parts Make Up Metal Deck Railing?

Like other railing systems, metal deck railing includes posts, rails, and infill. Posts are the thick, vertical pieces that give your railing strength. Rails are the long, horizontal bars - most railing systems will have a top rail and a bottom rail. Posts and rails create a rectangle; infill sits inside that rectangle. Infill can be balusters, like in the AFCO Pro system, but it can also be glass panels, glass balusters, or metal cable runs in other railing systems.

What Color Should I Pick For My AFCO Aluminum Railing?

AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing comes in three strong color options: black, white, and bronze. We recommend picking a railing color that complements not only your house and deck, but also your view. For example, a black railing looks dynamite with a trendy gray-colored deck surface. White tends to pair really well with homes that already feature some white trim. Bronze is a great, organic choice to highlight your view, as the bronze color tends to disappear into natural settings.

Can I Use Balusters That Are A Different Color From My Rails?

Yes! With DecksDirect, you can mix and match different rail and baluster colors. A sharp black rail contrasting with white balusters? A classic white rail look with unobtrusive bronze balusters? You can tailor your railing to your vision! Just give our team a call at 1-888-824-5316 and we’ll build you a custom kit with the rail color and baluster color of your choice.

Installing AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing

How Hard Is It To Install AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing?

When it comes to railing systems, AFCO Pro is on the easier end of the spectrum for DIY installation. Each rail kit features specific installation instructions in the “Specifications” table on the product page. The quick version: you’ll mount deck posts, then assemble your rail panel, and finally use the rail brackets to attach your panel to the posts.

You can read our AFCO installation guide here. As always, our team is available to answer any installation questions you have over the phone. Just give us a call at 1-888-824-5316 for help planning and installing your aluminum railing..

Can I Cut Aluminum Railing?

Yes. You can cut an AFCO rail panel down to the exact size you need for your deck’s dimensions. You’ll need a miter saw with a metal cutting blade, and touch-up paint to coat the cut ends.

Can I Install AFCO Pro Railing On Corners With Irregular Angles?

Yes! One of the big advantages of AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing is that its versatile bracketry allows you to install railing at a range of angles. That includes downward and upward angles for deck stairs, but also odd corners or irregular angles in the outline of your deck.

Can I Add A Drink Rail On My AFCO Pro Railing?

AFCO Pro makes it easy to add a flat, drink-rail surface on top of your railings. Check out the Flat Top Level Rail Kit, which features a classic T-shaped top rail profile. You can install a composite deck board of your choice on top of the rail to add some additional color and texture to your railing look.

AFCO Pro Aluminum Railing Maintenance

Will AFCO Deck Railing Rust?

One huge advantage of aluminum is that it doesn’t rust like other metals. Aluminum can be vulnerable to some other forms of corrosion, though, through contact with oxygen. AFCO’s aluminum railings are powder-coated to protect against this oxidization. To keep your aluminum railing from corroding, it’s important to use touch-up paint to coat any cut ends or places where the powder-coating has scratched or scraped off.

How Do I Clean AFCO Aluminum Railings?

It’s easy to clean the powder-coated surfaces of AFCO railing. We recommend doing it at least twice a year - more frequently if your outdoor living space is exposed to saltwater air or pollen.

Here’s how to clean your AFCO aluminum railings:

Step 1: In a bucket, mix warm water and a pH neutral detergent, like a mild dish soap.

Step 2: Use your cleaning mixture and a soft cloth, sponge or non-abrasive brush to wipe down the surfaces of your railing.

Step 3: Rinse the cleaning solution off the railing with clean, fresh water. Take care not to leave the cleaning solution on the railing for more than 30 minutes before rinsing.
