What Are Deckorators Deck Boards Made Of?
Deckorators offers two different types of decking material.
Wood-plastic composite (WPC) is traditional composite material made of real wood fibers and recycled synthetic plastic. This creates a durable, low-maintenance board with the look and feel of natural wood.
Mineral-based composite (MBC) is an enhanced version of PVC decking - mineral-based composite boards are lightweight like PVC, but also don’t expand or contract with temperature changes the same way traditional PVC boards do. Deckorators bills its mineral-based or MBC decking lines as carrying the best strength-to-weight ratio in the industry.
Deckorators Voyage and Vault lines are mineral-based composite. The Trailhead and Vista lines are wood-plastic composite. Both are much more durable and much lower-maintenance than traditional wood or pressure-treated decking. Where Is Deckorators Decking Manufactured?
Deckorators composite decking is manufactured in the USA by Universal Forest Products, Inc or UFPI. UFPI is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with facilities across the country.
Does Deckorators Decking Come With A Warranty?
Yes. Deckorators mineral-based composite lines (Voyage and Vault) come with a 50-year structural performance warranty and a 25-year stain & fade warranty. The brand’s wood-based composite lines (Trailhead and Vista) carry 25-year warranties for both structural performance and stain & fade.
Does Deckorators Decking Get Hot On Sunny Days?
Just like wood or other materials, composite decking can absorb heat in direct sunlight and feel hot to the touch. Deckorators mineral-based composite lines (Voyage and Vault) will absorb less heat than traditional composite decking. But decking color affects heat absorption more than composition. If your deck is in direct sunlight, we recommend choosing a lighter color of decking - this will keep your deck cooler than a dark tone.
Are Deckorators Deck Boards Slip-Resistant?
p>If you’re looking to avoid a slippery walking surface, Deckorators Voyage
mineral-based composite decking is a great choice. Independent testing has found Voyage to provide 34% more surface traction than other leading composite decking brands.
What’s The Difference Between Deckorators Voyage, Vault, Trailhead, and Vista?
The biggest difference between Deckorators decking lines is the material used for each board. Deckorators Voyage and Vault lines are made from mineral-based composite decking, while the Trailhead and Vista lines are made from traditional wood-plastic composite decking.
Here’s a look at the major differences between the four Deckorators lines we carry:
Mineral-Based Composite Decking Lines: These innovative boards carry the industry’s best strength-to-weight ratio with virtually no thermal expansion and contraction. Both lines are covered by a 50-year structural performance warranty and a 25-year fade and stain warranty.
- Deckorators Voyage decking is the brand’s premium mineral-based decking line. Voyage provides increased surface traction compared to traditional composite material. It comes in five color options with textured embossing for a natural wood look.
- Deckorators Vault decking is a slightly more cost-effective mineral-based composite option. It comes in two color options with a textured, variegated surface that is a slightly flatter texture than Voyage.
Wood-Plastic Composite Decking Lines: These low-maintenance Deckorators composite decking lines are capped on three sides with a protective shell and carry 25-year warranties for structural performance and stain & fade.
- Deckorators Trailhead decking is a scalloped-bottom decking line, making boards less-expensive and lighter weight. Trailhead comes in three natural color options with a subtle variegated wood texture.
- Deckorators Vista decking is a flat-bottom decking line for maximum strength. Vista features four colors designed to deliver the look of exotic hardwoods.
What’s The Difference Between Mineral-Based Composite Decking And Wood-Plastic Composite Decking?
Deckorators wood-plastic composite (sometimes called WPC) deck boards are traditional composite boards that feature the beautiful look of natural wood without wood’s intense maintenance demands. Mineral-based composite decking (sometimes called MBC decking) is an enhanced version of traditional PVC decking. Deckorators mineral-based composite boards are lightweight and feature the industry’s best strength-to-weight ratio. Mineral-based boards also feature almost no expansion or contraction based on temperature. Without this thermal expansion, boards will last longer and hold up better in very cold or very hot climates.
What’s The Difference Between Grooved Edge Boards And Square Edge Boards?
Grooved edge boards feature a long ridge or groove cut into the long edges of the deck board. Grooved edge boards are designed for use with hidden deck fasteners. Traditional square edge boards are for use with other fasteners or in places where the edge of the deck board will be visible, like the outsides of your deck, stair treads, or drink rails.

How Do I Hide The Screws While Installing Decking?
When you install your deck boards, you can hide your screws and fasteners for a clean, unblemished look on your decking surface.
There are two ways to hide your screws with Deckorators composite decking.
Stowaway Hidden Fasteners fit in between your deck boards, holding your boards down via grooves in the side of the boards and screwing directly into your frame joists. If you use hidden fasteners, be sure to buy grooved-edge deck boards.
You can also use the Starborn Pro Plug System to hide your fasteners. Pro Plug screws drive through the top of your deck boards and into joists, sinking below the surface of your deck. Fill the space above the screw with plugs cut from the same exact material and with the same color and texture as your deck boards. This creates a seamless look and makes your screws virtually invisible.
Do I Have To Stain Deckorators Composite Deck Boards?
No. Unlike wood, Deckorators composite decking and mineral-based composite never requires staining or sealing.
How Do I Clean Deckorators Deck Boards?
Cleaning composite deck boards is a breeze. All it takes is three simple steps:
- Sweep off your deck surface to clear debris like leaves or pine needles.
- Brush your deck with warm, soapy water and a soft-bristle brush
- Rinse your deck surface with fresh, clean water.
That’s it! There’s no heavy cleaning required.

Can I Use A Pressure Washer To Clean Deckorators Decking?
