General Wild Hog Railing FAQs

Why Should I Pick Wild Hog Railing For My Deck?

Wild Hog Panels are an absolutely perfect addition to any modern farmhouse look - but they’re also versatile enough to fit a wide range of styles. It’s that versatility that makes Wild Hog Railing such a favorite of contractors and deck enthusiasts.

Finish choices range from textured black to matte black to sparkling silver. You can install Wild Hog Panels into a variety of railings from wood to metal to composite to achieve the perfect look for your deck style.

With options for galvanized steel, powder-coated steel, or stainless steel, Wild Hog panels are strong and extremely durable, with low regular maintenance demands. Meanwhile, Wild Hog’s unique mesh pattern is a great alternative to cable rail in delivering great visibility from your deck surface. Hog Panels open up your view without compromising on strength.

Is The Railing Frame Included?

No. What makes Wild Hog Panels so versatile is that the metal mesh panels can be installed into a wide variety of railing types. You can mount them into existing wood posts and rails, you can use Hog Tracks to mount the panel within a railing setup, or pair Hog Panels with a railing system like Trex Transcend or Westbury Veranda for the custom look you want.

To plan the best use of Wild Hog Panels in your railing project, call our team at 1-888-824-5316. We’ll chat with you to understand your vision, then help you build a full railing project package that fits your ideal look, budget, and build timeline.

What Gauge Metal Is Wild Hog Railing?

Wild Hog Panels come in a range of styles, each with different gauges, or thicknesses, of steel. Welded Mesh Panels and U.S.S. Hog Stainless Steel Panels are both 6-gauge steel. Smoky Mountain Panels are even thicker, using 1/4-inch steel. And Tahoe Woven Mesh Black and Tahoe Woven Mesh Raw Steel Panels are even thicker at 3/8-inch.

What Size Are Wild Hog Panels?

Wild Hog Railing comes in both 3-foot-by-6-foot and 3-foot-by-8-foot panels. For bigger openings, we carry a 6-foot-by-8-foot Wild Hog Fence Panel. No matter what size panel you need, you can easily cut down Hog Panels to fit the exact dimensions of your outdoor living space.

How Big Are The Openings In Wild Hog Panels?

Wild Hog Panels are made of a 4-inch-by-4-inch mesh.

Can I Use Wild Hog Panels Near Salt Water?

If you’re installing near a body of saltwater, we’d recommend using the U.S.S. Hog Stainless Steel Panel. Stainless steel will resist rust and corrosion better than other types of steel.

Will Wild Hog Panels Meet Building Codes?

Wild Hog Panels are designed to meet building codes for both residential and commercial settings. That said, it’s always important to check with your city building department before starting any project to make sure your installation method will meet local and state building codes.

Can I Use Wild Hog Panels With Composite Railing?

Yes! Trex’s premium Transcend composite railing line is designed to work with Wild Hog Panels using Freedom Fill infill tracks. You can check out our Trex Transcend and Wild Hog Railing offerings here. Give our team a call at 1-888-824-5316 anytime for help planning your Wild Hog and composite railing project.

Can I Use Wild Hog Panels With Aluminum Railing?

Yes! Westbury’s Veranda Glass Railing system pairs extremely well with Wild Hog for an amazing deck look. Give our team a call at 1-888-824-5316 to build a custom Westbury Veranda and Wild Hog railing package for your deck.

Do I Need Hog Tusks With My Panels?

If you plan to cut any of your railing panels, you’ll need Hog Tracks to cap off the cut ends. If you’re not cutting down your panels, you don’t need Hog Tusks. Hog Tusks don’t work on the thicker Wild Hog Panels like Tahoe or Smoky Mountain. For those panels, you’ll want to coat any cut ends with Touch-Up Paint.

Do I Need Hog Tracks With My Panels?

It depends on how you plan to install your panels. You can install Wild Hog Panels directly into a wood frame by sandwiching it between the rails or cutting a small channel into the wood. But you can also use Hog Tracks, which attach to your rails and create a channel for a Wild Hog Panel to fit into.

Installing Wild Hog Railing

How Do I Install Wild Hog Panels?

There are 4 ways to build a railing with Wild Hog Railing Panels:

  • Sandwich the panel between wood deck rails
  • Create a channel in wood deck rails
  • Picture-frame the metal panel with Wild Hog Railing Hog Tracks Channels
  • Choose a Metal Deck Railing (like Westbury Veranda) or Composite Railing system (like Trex Transcend) for the rail frame

You can learn more about these installation options here, kor you can give our team a call at 1-888-824-5316

Can I Cut Wild Hog Railing Panels?

Yes, you can cut Wild Hog Panels down to whatever size you need for your railing section. We recommend using a metal carbide sawblade and cutting with either a hacksaw, circular saw, or jigsaw. You can also cut Wild Hog Panels with bolt cutters.

Make sure to cover up any cut ends with either Hog Tusks or Wild Hog Touch-Up Paint. This will prevent any rust or corrosion from forming on the cut ends.

How Do I Install Wild Hog Panels On Stairs?

Yes! Wild Hog creates angled panels specifically for stair rail sections.

Wild Hog Railing Maintenance

Will Wild Hog Panels Rust?

Wild Hog uses a multi-step process to galvanize and powder-coat most of its panel options. This helps them resist rust and corrosion. To keep your panels from rusting, handle them carefully and try not to scratch off the powder coating. If you cut panels or scratch through the coating, cover up the exposed area with either Touch-Up Paint or Hog Tusks.

The major exception is the Tahoe Woven Mesh Raw Steel Panel, which is designed specifically to create an organic raw steel look that will naturally rust over time.
