The first thing you want to think about when you're getting your deck ready for summer is cleaning your existing deck, and this is possible with our Cleaners, Brighteners & Strippers. Ensuring that your decking boards are properly cleaned and are rid of any old stains, dirt and gunk is very important because you can get discoloration from board-to-board, leaving you with an inconsistent looking finish. A thorough cleaning and brightening will prepare your deck for staining and the end result will bring out the true beauty of your deck. Decks Direct offers cleaners and brighteners from both Messmer's Natural Wood Finishes and Penofin Penetrating Oil.
The next thing you'll want to consider when you're prepairing your deck ready for summer is stain. Decks Direct offers staining products from Penofin, Messmer's and Deckwise. There are a few factors that go into selecting the correct stain for your deck including what material your deck boards are, what color you are wanting to get from your stain, and even where you live.
Deck stain has a solvent in it called the Volatile Organic Compound, or V.O.C., that is released into the air as the stain dries and because of this you may or may not be able to use certain stains in certain areas of the United States. A 550 V.O.C. formula indicates that there are 550 grams of V.O.C.'s per liter, and a 250 V.O.C. formula indicates that there are 250 grams of V.O.C.'s per liter. Penofin has a zero V.O.C. option available with their Penofin Verde Interior/Exterior Formula. Check Decks Direct's V.O.C. map and see which V.O.C.'s are allowed in your state.
Once you have found what the V.O.C. limit is in your area, you can begin choosing which stain, or stains, you'll be using for your project. Penofin offers multiple different products for different applications. Penofin offers Red Label and Blue Label for your wood deck as their "workhorse" stain products. Penofin has an option for hardwoods with Penofin Exterior Hardwood Formula, an option for composite boards with Penofin Knotwood Composite Formula, and an option for pressure treated deck boards with Penofin for Pressure Treated Wood. There is even an option for your dock or a deck that is near water with Penofin Exterior Marine Oil Finish.
Messmer's also offers multiple different stains for different applications. Just as Red Label and Blue Label could be marked as the Penofin "workhorse" stain, UV Plus by Messmer's could be called the same thing. Messmer's also has an option for hardwoods with UV Plus for hardwoods, an option for pressure treated wood with the UV Plus Pressure Treated Formula, and an option for composites with Composite Deck Finish by Messmer's. Even if you have a type of exotic wood like teak or mahogany Messmer's has an option for you with Caribbean Extreme by Messmer's.
With this information you will now be able to more accurately prepare your deck for summer!
